Success at Alpe d’Huzes!

Back to news

Together with 5000 other participants, the team “United Cancer Centers” climbed the mountain Alpe d’Huez multiple times on the 6thof June, to raise money for cancer research. In the team were researchers and doctors from six institutions in the Netherlands: the Hubrecht Institute, UMC Utrecht, Amsterdam UMC, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and Erasmus MC. Together the team raised 26.077 euros.

Every day, researchers work hard to try to understand cancer. A lot of money is necessary for this research, and collaborations are essential. In the Netherlands there is a high level of collaboration in cancer research, for instance through Oncode Institute, a virtual institute that brings together cancer researchers from all over the country. Like in the lab, the researchers also collaborated for Alpe d’Huzes and created the joint team “United Cancer Centers”. In this team were two of our group leaders: Wouter de Laat and Jop Kind, who climbed the Alpe d’Huez six times!

All 5000 participants together raised more than 11 million euros for cancer research, which will be donated to the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF).
