Many visitors at successful Weekend of Science 2023!

Back to news

Last Sunday, 8 October, the Hubrecht Institute participated in the Weekend of Science 2023. Visitors came in large numbers to the Utrecht University program, including our activity ‘How does your body work?’. Here they learned all about our research and experienced working as a developmental biologist themselves.

The Weekend of Science is an annual science festival where universities, museums and companies throughout the Netherlands open their doors to give everyone a glimpse into the world of science and technology.

Visitors of Weekend of Science 2023

This year, the Hubrecht Institute participated in the program of Utrecht University. Immediately after opening the doors, people poured in and at the end of the day the counter stood at no fewer than 2,500 visitors. Many curious children attended the Hubrecht Institute’s activity ‘How does your body work?’ and were introduced to our research. They made puzzles to learn more about animal development, looked through our microscopes to study zebrafish, worms and organoids and isolated their own DNA. After the budding researchers had finished all that, thereby collecting all the stamps, they proudly left with their developmental biologist diploma.

Thanks to the help and enthusiasm of our wonderful volunteers, it was a very successful day! We look forward to next year (mark 5 and 6 October 2024 in your calendar!). More information about our participation will follow in the course of 2024.
