Retrospective Hubrecht Symposium 2026

On Thursday, 26 March 2026, the 2nd Hubrecht Symposium brought together researchers interested in molecular and developmental biology. It was an inspiring day, filled with excellent science, the exchange of new ideas, and opportunities to build new collaborations.

The symposium focused on the theme “Molecular Machines in Development”. Keynote speakers Andrea Pauli (IMP Vienna), Petra Hajkova (MRC-LMS London) and Daniel Gerlich (IMBA Vienna) presented their outstanding research on translational control and fertilization mechanisms, epigenome organization during germ cell development, and sister chromatid dynamics upon DNA damage.

The auditorium was full and discussions were lively throughout the day, including during the poster session, breaks and closing drinks.

We heard excellent work from national speakers about cytoplasmic organization (Melissa Rinaldin, Hubrecht Institute), epigenetic changes during differentiation (Joost Gribnau, LUMC), transcription factor dynamics (Tineke Lenstra, NKI) and chromosome instability (Floris Foijer, ERIBA).

Selected abstract speakers delivered impressive talks on AlphaFold-based discovery of new complexes, epigenome organization in the retina, reconstitution of implantation, structural determination of egg-specific structures.

We thank everyone who made this day a success and look forward to welcoming you next year!
