Today the Hubrecht Institute (Utrecht, the Netherlands) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL – Heidelberg, Germany) signed a 5-year partnership agreement. The main goal of this partnership is a to establish a working relationship to support scientific exchange and complementarity. The Hubrecht Institute is the first Dutch research Institute to sign such an agreement with EMBL.

The EMBL Partnership Programme aims to create an interlinked system of outstanding research centers that enhance the development of the molecular life sciences in Europe and the world.  EMBL and the Hubrecht Institute decided to intensify existing links and build further synergies through the creation of a strong inter-institutional collaboration.

Alexander van Oudenaarden (Director Hubrecht Institute)

“I am very excited by this new partnership with EMBL. I am sure many new scientific opportunities will arise and I am looking forward to take a peek ‘under the hood’ of the EMBL organization. For example, I think we will benefit from the vast experience of EMBL in recruiting international top talent. I am very proud to have this direct link with the hub of molecular biology in Europe.”

Iain Mattaj (Director General EMBL)

“The EMBL-Hubrecht Partnership for Stem Cell and Tissue Biology is a great opportunity for both institutions to bring forward more projects in common research priorities, such as single-cell analysis, chromatin organization, or organ and tissue organization. We are very excited to see the first scientific collaborations between complementary research teams, but are also looking forward to sharing more closely both institutions’ core facilities and expertise in recruiting young talent.”
