To celebrate this, the Hubrecht Institute is opening its doors to the general public on Saturday, 6 June 2026. Visitors of all ages will be able to explore science in different ways. They can learn how researchers study viruses and organoids through hands-on activities, isolate DNA from saliva, and use microscopes to observe cells, tissues, and embryos. Visitors can also experience what it is like to be a researcher by trying hands-on techniques such as pipetting. Throughout the day, a series of short lectures will be offered, covering topics such as regeneration in the axolotl (a type of salamander) and what this can teach us about tissue repair in humans, the interaction between embryo and endometrium in the lab and how this helps us better understand implantation, and how we address the challenges of sustainability in science. Practical information Date: Saturday, 6 June 2026 Time: 11.00-16.00 hours Location: Hubrecht Institute, Uppsalalaan 8, Utrecht This is your chance to take a look inside the Hubrecht Institute and to learn more about the research that the scientists are passionately working on every day.
