Group leader

René Ketting

René Ketting studied chemistry in Leiden, specializing in molecular genetics, graduating with honors in 1994. He performed his PhD research at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, under supervision of Prof. Ronald Plasterk, obtaining his PhD degree in 2000 with honors. He performed a postdoctoral research project in the laboratory of Prof. Greg Hannon at CSHL in 2000, and has been a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Plasterk at the Hubrecht Institute until 2005. He was appointed group leader at the Hubrecht Institute in 2005.
He was awarded several grants and prizes. These include two prestigious national personal grants: a Veni (NWO) in 2002 and a Vidi (NWO) in 2005. In 2007 he was among the first recipients of a start-up grant from the European Research Council. In the same year he was selected as EMBO Young Investigator. Awarded prizes include the Franchimont Prize in 1994, the NVBMB prize (Dutch organization for Biology and Molecular Biology) in 2002 and the FEBS Anniversary Prize in 2008.
