Hans Clevers receives Dutch Cancer Society Award

24 November 2009

During an award ceremony in attendance of H.M. the Queen and the Miniter of Education, Culture and Science, Hans Clevers and 5 other researchers received the “Koningin Wilhelmina Onderzoeksprogramma” (KWO) award. The Dutch Cancer Society (“KWF Kanker Bestrijding”) has initiated this award in 2008 and Hans Clevers was amongst the first-year winners.  The KWO award is a personal grant, which enables the researchers to perform comprehensive and multidisciplinary research over a period of six years. This research is meant to enhance the translation from basic to applied science.

Hans Clevers receives the award for his research on new techniques for effective treatment of colon cancer, in particular the role of stem cells in the establishment and maintenance of tumors.
