31 January 2012 | Two NWO-Vici's and one ERC Advanced Grant have been awarded to Hubrecht group leaders.
Prof. Alexander van Oudenaarden, since 1 January 2012 co-director at the Hubrecht Institute, has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant (€ 2.5M) and an NWO-Vici grant (€ 1.5M).
Prof. René Ketting, senior staff scientist at the Hubrecht Institute, has also been awarded a NWO-Vici grant (€ 1.5M).
Alexander van Oudenaarden is the second Hubrecht director to receive an ERC Advanced Grant. In 2008 Prof. Hans Clevers was amongst the first recipients of this prestigious award by the European Research Council. Van Oudenaarden receives the award for his research project entitled "controlling stochastic gene expression during development and stem cell differentiation".
Today NWO announced that 2 Hubrecht group leaders receive an € 1.5M Vici grant. The Veni, Vidi, Vici programs are part of the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme. Veni (starting postdocs) and Vidi (experienced postdocs) grants have been awarded to Hubrecht researchers many times before. This year is the first year that the Hubrecht holds also Vici laureates.
Prof. René Ketting, professor at the veterinary medicine faculty of the University Utrecht, receives the Vici award for his project entitled "RNAi and chromatin across generations".
Prof. Alexander van Oudenaarden receives his vici award for the project entitled "quantifying the central dogma: one molecule at a time".
