The Hubrecht Institute is a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Research at the Hubrecht Institute focuses on developmental biology and stem cells at the organismal, cellular, genetic, genomic and proteomic level. Basic insight into development and into stem cells will provide insight into (human) disease, such as cancer.
The Hubrecht Institute is affiliated with the University Medical Center Utrecht and has close connections with the Utrecht University, e.g. in the Cancer, Stem cells & Developmental biology (CS&D) Master's and PhD programs.
In February 2013 (news item) the KNAW has announced building activities for an extension of the Hubrecht Institute. The capacity of the current building will be doubled. On 2 floors of the new building the UMC Utrecht will house a laboratory for translational regenerative medicine. The Hubrecht Institute and UMC Utrecht cooperate closely since
2008 (news item).
