Introduction
The foundation “Friends of the Hubrecht Institute” brings in funds for the execution of excellent scientific research. The foundation, which was raised in 2005, is trying to support the Hubrecht Institute by this way. One of the things that the foundation does is appointing young and talented researchers for a period of 4 years. After that period the researchers can stand on their own two feet and become independent. They are more experienced and have learned a lot during their stay at the Hubrecht Institute.

Introductie
De stichting ”Vrienden van het Hubrecht Instituut” heeft als doelstelling het onderzoek in het Hubrecht Instituut in de breedste zin van het woord te ondersteunen. De stichting verkrijgt haar gelden via private geldstromen, zoals giften, subsidies en legaten. De stichting heeft de afgelopen jaren samen met de stichting Concordia een aantal fellows aangesteld. Daarnaast werd er laboratoriumapparatuur aangekocht om nieuw onderzoek in het instituut op te starten. De stichting “Concordia Trajectina” is een stichting die streeft naar algemeen, multidisciplinair onderzoek naar hart- en vaatziekten. De fellows die zijn aangesteld, staan onder leiding van een hoogopgeleide onderzoeker met een gespecialiseerd biomedische achtergrond.

De volgende onderzoeken zijn enkele van de vele die op dit moment gedaan worden in het Hubrecht Instituut:
Een muis met darmkanker: over embryonale processen in een volwassen lichaam
Leren van een depressieve rat: minimale mutaties in dieren heel effectief reproduceren
Een transparant topmodel: verstoorde bouwplannen onthullen medische mogelijkheden
